Opinion:- When Corbyn fever hit, Momentum were tipped to be the voice for Corbyn supporters amidst a climate of centrist dogma. Rallys up and down the country, and Momentum candidates finding their way into positions of influence across CLPs and the wider Labour network.
But what if this was all an elaborate and sinister Russian style black ops?
Momentum founder Jon Lansmon has stated that there are members within the Labour Party with ““hardcore anti-Semitic” views. He gives zero evidence to confirm this assessment.
He goes on to confound and reiterate the views of deputy leader Tom Watson in regards to Luciana Berger and says he was “extremely upset by it.”
What is going on here?
Jon backed Jeremy and was a close ally during his leadership election campaigns, but has he been turned?
He asserts that anti-semitism is now a “widespread problem,” with many CLPs facing a problem with anti-semitic views. This kind of retort just plays into the same stream of hysteria we've been hearing since Luciana Berger and others left the party though it cannot be quantified with facts and that is what makes it paradoxically both empirically benign yet politically malignant.
Whilst anti-semitism should not and will not be accepted by any decent human being, allowing waves of nepotism and untruths to be continually regurgitated is a very dangerous thing indeed.
It appears that former Labour MP Ms Berger is the focal figure, cast as some kind of beacon of hope and disgracefully driven out by “thugs” as Watson called it, “the worst thing to happen in Labour's [almost] 120 year history.”
I'd beg to differ and say the grotesque murder of Jo Cox should be given that unwanted phrase, but who am I to argue.
If Momentum truly are the ‘enemy within’ then it would have been a master stroke by those establishment figures who are so desperate to bring down a left-wing Labour movement. They have a huge following of young Corbyn supporting members who are active within CLPs.
What is very telling is that Momentum have launched a new campaign which can only be viewed as a begging letter to the Jewish community.
They have openly encouraged Corbyn supporters to sign it and dissenting MPs have interestingly been retweeting it.
Mr Lansmon states quite strongly “We have a major problem and it always seems to me that we underestimate the scale of it. “It’s a widespread problem.”
Now, we know categorically that to be an untruth.
Because in the wake of mounting pressure Corbyn setup a system of reporting anti-semitic claims. The figures were minute. Why would the establishment figures jump all over Chris Williamson who has basically just outlined the same view as myself, but clearly from a more influential and prominent role.
Surely as a party, whichever ‘side’ we belong, we would want the truth to be our beacon, not summaries or hysteria or inaccurate assertions that can not be quantifiable.
If someone can show me evidence which scientifically quantifies without doubt that the issue of anti-semitism within Labour is “widespread,” “an infestation,” and “institutionalised,” I'll leave both the party and my union and I'll join the Conservative party.
Earlier this morning March 1, MP Rosie Duffield tweeted to her followers that Chris Williamson’s values “are not those of UK Labour“
I'd say his values are exactly those of UK Labour - fairness, justice, rights to democracy and loyalty!
It appears now we have MPs freely putting left-wing suspended politicians on social media show trials!
I've contacted our General Secretary and urge other members do the same. In no other sphere of fairness and justice would this be allowed to happen. It must end.
So, what of Momentum - I'll leave that open to you to decide yourself. But what is absolutely clear is that the founder of the movement, himself a Jewish person, has either taken leave of his senses or is now playing up to the narrative that Labour has an enormous problem.
One thing is for certain, I will not sign a document that suggests Labour has not done enough to combat racism in any of its disgusting forms, be it against Jewish people or anyone else for that matter.
Our 120 year history was founded on fairness, justice and decency.
Why undo all of the decades of hard work and dedication by loyal and staunchly socialist people by saying we have failed our Jewish friends!?
We need to put away our begging bowls which only serve to play into the narrative that we are a party for anti-semitic people to have a safe place. We can address this cancer without openly assisting those who would wish to use it as a political stick to beat us with.
