Opinion: Best selling author J K Rowling, she of the Harry Potter series of books, has taken to Twitter to shower contempt and disdain on Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters.
Ms Rowling appears to believe the fact that she claimed benefits years ago as a single mother qualifies her to push the old style new Labour policies of Blair and then Brown as the best way forward for Labour though the times have certainly changed a bit since then.
It is tough when life deals you a bum hand whether it is briefly or over an extended period of time or worse still your whole life.
Some people certainly get the crappy end of the stick time and time again and for some or maybe many it is not their fault at all.
Divorce, bereavement, unemployment, mental health issues, a physical disabilty can all challenge your way of life and set you on the road to ruin.
We all know some people who manage to rise up from the depths and truly make good, like Rowling, but the cards are sometimes stacked more favourably for them;
The best-selling author [Rowling] said today that she had been defined “in the eyes of many” by something she had “never chosen”. Rowling, the president of the Gingerbread advice and support group for single mothers, wrote that the break-up of her marriage nearly 20 years ago had left her – a graduate who had always been in full-time employment – on benefits and taking odd jobs at a local Edinburgh church.
That is part of a report in the Independent in 2013.
Rowling faced a tough few years but as a graduate who had always enjoyed full-time employment she was hardly a single mother with a poor education who has little chance of rectifying that in the short term and faces a few hours working in a factory to make ends meet.
The piece in the Independent centres around Rowling believing she is still defined by being a single mother but that could be due her constant vocal reminders of that previous time.
She split from her partner in 1993, divorced in 1995 and remarried in 2001.
Her first Harry Potter book was published in 1997.
So for a brief period of time Rowling needed a helping hand from the state.
A very different story to many and a very diffent "state" to 2016..
She is a friend of Gordon Brown's wife Sarah.
In 2004, Forbes named Rowling as the first person to become a U.S.-dollar billionaire by writing books?
12 years on she is richer than ever.
"In September 2008, on the eve of the Labour Party Conference, Rowling announced that she had donated £1 million to the Labour Party, and publicly endorsed Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown over Conservative challenger David Cameron, praising Labour's policies on child poverty. Rowling is a close friend of Sarah Brown, wife of Gordon Brown, whom she met when they collaborated on a charitable project for One Parent Families."
Just an ordinary gal?
An advert in The Guardian led Rowling to move to Porto, Portugal, to teach English as a foreign language. She taught at night and began writing in the day while listening to Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. After 18 months in Porto, she met Portuguese television journalist Jorge Arantes in a bar and found they shared an interest in Jane Austen. They married on 16 October 1992 and their child, Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes (named after Jessica Mitford), was born on 27 July 1993 in Portugal.Rowling had previously suffered a miscarriage. The couple separated on 17 November 1993. Biographers have suggested that Rowling suffered domestic abuse during her marriage, although the full extent is unknown. IN December 1993, Rowling and her then-infant daughter moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, to be near Rowling's sister with three chapters of what would become Harry Potter in her suitcase.
Ms Rowling is fairly philanthropic; but she is stepping into Labour Party politics to join some Labour MPs trying to remove Jeremy Corbyn as party leader and like many people I question WHY and for whom?
All things Corbyn
