Opinion: Our tale of two brothers and one political social media click baiting account continues with Councillor John Ferrett.
To be fair he was partially included in part one "Tale of two Ferretts, Miss Politics and Labour Party abuse."
Currently ordinary members of the Labour Party are being suspended from Labour but there is a big BUT.
In the summer we were warned that the use of certain words could result in party suspension or even expulsion. Of course there you have problem number one. Those in the know are able to avoid the certain words but remain abusive on social media, in some cases goading others to cross that invisible red-line of abuse.
The party is justified in removing enemies within but it is currently undertaking a divisive witch-hunt and suspending long standing party members, young, old and it has to be said by and large Jeremy Corbyn supporters.
Suspension notification letters tell the recipient that they are excluded from holding office in the party. That means they cannot be a secretary or chair person in their CLP or at ward level but also excludes them from going a step further into politics perhaps as either a Councillor or an MP.
It also prevents them attending the Labour Party conference 2016 which is imminent.
If the Labour Party wants to even put on a show of being fair it must include people such as Mr John Ferrett in its suspensions but that would cause local council problems.
The same goes for MPs.
But if the Labour Party cannot show itself to be fair with its members it says something and not something positive.
Reasons for suspension range from the sublime to the ridiculous with the downright crazy in the mix.
Councillor John Ferrett posted on Twitter recently that Labour's Compliance Unit has a dossier on him, in other words complaints re perceived abuse on social media, but that he has been cleared.
The conclusion then must surely be that the majority of party members currently suspended will be exonerrated?
Because when you look at the reasons given and examples of social media activity that has resulted in the suspension of members Mr Ferrett is up there with the worst offenders.
However if exonerrated it will be too late for input in the 2016 Labour leadership contest.
Mr Ferrett on the contrary will have voted and be able to attend party conference if he wants to.
This was to be a single post but it did not take much digging to realise it needs to be in three parts.
So Saturday in part one we planned to take a look at Labour Councillor John Ferrett but instead this report features his brother Ken.
Bear in mind that currently some Labour Party members are excluded from the leadership election, suspended from the party for activity on social media deemed abusive.
John Ferrett and his "kid brother" Ken represented Labour at local level, Portsmouth, and John still does however Ken quit.
On September 25 2015, 13 days after Corbyn was elected, Ken quit saying "he had to leave due to ‘fundamental political differences’ with Jeremy Corbyn." He added he was "also ‘horrified’ by the level of abuse thrown at loyal Labour members for not embracing ‘Corbynmania’.
Portsmouth News reported "Cllr Ken Ferrett, who serves the city’s Nelson ward and has represented Labour for 21 years, has made the decision due to ‘fundamental political differences’ with the veteran left-wing politician [Jeremy Corbyn]."
Portsmouth News published his resignation letter in full which you can view by a link below. The following quote is just a small part of it:
I absolutely respect the result of the leadership election as representing the democratic will of the members and supporters of the Labour Party and recognise the leader has a significant mandate with which to transform the party. However, what I cannot and will not respect, is the party and its leadership abdicating their responsibility to present themselves to the British public as a credible alternative government to the Conservatives. Ultimately, I have faith that the wider electorate will never elect Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister and will continue to show their very British and very dismissive contempt for those who indulge in the fantasy politics of the far-left.
According to Portsmouth News his heart was no longer in the role by February 2016.
Ken Ferrett left the Labour party but stayed on as an Independent councillor before quitting February 2016 ahead of a scheduled re-election.
But Saturday Mr Ken Ferrett is busy on social media posting vile abusive tweets.
Ken Ferrett @Ken_Ferrett Disband/proscribe Momentum, sack McDonnell, sack Milne, expel Livingstone, state clear commitment to NATO & Trident (link: https://twitter.com/Pooolitics/status/777078371201212417) twitter.com/Pooolitics/sta…
He appears to be sharing with an account most people especially Jeremy Corbyn supporters have blocked. It is one called Miss Politics.
The account currently has an I'm with Corbyn Twibbon but until very recently it brandished one supporting Owen Smith!
As already suspected it is a click-bait troll acount aimed at sucking people in perhaps before reporting offenders to Labour's compliance unit.
Who or what is behind that Miss Politics troll account is not known but it is shared far too often by Owen Smith supporters.
Ken Ferrett's timeline is full of anti Corbyn tweets from fake accounts, trolls and abusive MPs.
Ken Ferrett may hope to be welcomed back into the Labour fold if plotters manage to oust Jeremy Corbyn but surely his behaviour must warrant a long term party expulsion.
16 Sep Ken Ferrett @Ken_Ferrett @PortsmouthSail It's not Europe that's splitting Labour - it's inept leadership and an inflexible, electorally unpopular far-left agenda]
And John Ferrett's latest tweet Saturday is a reply to "Real Labour @gossipcelebrity@John_Ferrett @Anna_Soubry @johnmcdonnellMP when Jez wins next weekend you will need to reassess your situation #jeremy4pm" He replies "No I won't - I will join Alan Johnson and others in working even harder to undermine Corbyn."
And this blogger who is a member of Mr Johnson's CLP has noted that.
All things Corbyn
